Salvation Mountain Color-Blocked Painting
Salvation Mountain Color-Blocked Painting
Salvation Mountain is a a lovingly hand-painted folk art installation/monument/masterpiece by Leonard Knight, located in the southern California desert. As it says on their website, “Salvation Mountain is Leonard's tribute to God and his gift to the world with its simple yet powerful message.” On my road trip through the desert in April 2024, I had the surreal experience of bearing witness this piece in the total silence of the desert - just big color and pattern against the desert canvas.
This painting is a geometric study of the colors of the Salvation Mountain. Using an abstract, color-blocking technique, this painting emphasizes main colors on display in the artwork, and how much they stand out against the flat desert background.
